i want to make my own pepper spray since its illegal here which is BS
Yeah it's illegal here as well, which I only discovered the other day. Awesome. Now my only option is a key chain which lets out ridiculously loud female screams if you pull on it.
When I actually remember to bring it, a knife.
Sadly I'm more likely to hurt myself with it then an attacker. I used to carry mace
but maced myself.
This is why I don't carry mace anymore. I used to keep a small can of it in my purse, but I dropped my purse one day and heard a little aerosol sound and was like "Oh shit I must have broke the nozzle on my hairspray bottle" ... except it wasn't hairspray, it was the mace. I got hit in the face with a nice cloud of pepper spray when I opened my purse up and it was fucking awful
I used to carry a knife but I haven't in a while. And I've got a sharpened key blank on my key ring... but that's mainly because it's fun to have, though I know it could at least help a little if I found myself in a situation.
You wouldn't be scared of that making the person who is attacking more angry?
Well now that you say it, it doesn't sound like such a great idea, huh?
I bought it after I had an encounter with a bad guy. Nothing bad happened, but it made me realize that it might be a good idea to have some sort of defensive weapon.
no :\ I used to keep mace in my purse. My mom also bought me a stun gun, but that's not legal, lol.
A gun. I also keep a taser in my car.
My face... -cry cry-
I kid, but nothing. I -might- carry a gun if it were legal, but I don't know... maybe with more training... maybe.
Mace. The kind with the green dye that lasts over 24 hours, which is awesome.
No, though I'm starting to think I might like to.
I don't know if you consider this "self defense", but when I'm walking in the city, I often keep a small stone in my hand to ding cars that don't yield to me in marked pedestrian crosswalks.
On the rare occasions that I do carry a weapon, it's just a couple small pieces of wood to harden my fists. I usually feel pretty safe, both because I'm a physically fit male and because I live in a blue-collar neighborhood on the edge of town. The statistics say Tucson is a rough place, but I feel more likely to be trampled by the neighbor's horse or gored by a javelina than menaced by a human.
I think part of the difference between my perception and the statistics is that there's a large university here and a lot of the violent crime probably happens on campus. Kind of like how a heat map of the crime rates downtown is red around the transit center because that's where the police have contact with a lot of weirdos. Downtown isn't really as bad as the statistics suggest... unless you're at the TC; then it's worse.
I used to carry a knife, not that I would have been able to find it in a situation where it was needed.
Now I just use my WITS. ~*razor sharp*~
My body. It is a finely crafted killing machine.
No. If a stranger is going to attack me my guess is they're trying to rob me, so I'll give them whatever to save my ass. I figure if I resort to violence, they will too. Still, I keep a key inbetween my fingers late at night just for the sake of comfort.
Absolutely not, nor do I ever plan to.
I have a knife my husband gave me, but it's only ever been used to cut meat and open packages. Sometimes, though, when I'm walking home at night I put it in my pocket and hold onto it. Makes me feel better.
Don't know if I'd actually have the balls to use it, though.
I keep a knife. Which reminds me, I need to sharpen it.... I've been opening a lot of packages with it due to it being the holidays.
