so basically, christmas is always a little hard for me since i've been away from home (at uni) for the last three years. one silly ridiculous way to combat homesickness is ...candles! i know, it's odd but my mom burns tons of them and they remind me of her.

does anyone have any recommendations of brands or scents of candles they like? i'm currently thinking of trying red velvet from yankee candle! i'm quite keen on vanilla or food scents (strawberry, cinammon, the bread candle from b+bw) and am generally more sensitive to and stay away from strong floral scents (jasmine, lavendar, rose).

DC about candles: girls, do you have a celebrity girl crush? what makes them your crush? same goes for guys! mine are definitely kaya scodelario and emma stone. emma stone obviously has a perfect personality and kaya scodelario is an absolute natural classic beauty! :)

I use to love Yankee Candles, but now I am obsessed with my Scentsy. I have this little guy and right now he's melting some yummy cinnamon smells. I also love their French Lavender. Actually, I love most of the smells I've bought from them. Oooh especially the pumpkin.

ooh, that owl is so cute! i have a petal wax burner but i only use it when i have no candles because i feel like the scents from the tarts aren't as strong as an actual candle? i don't know.

anyway, i was wondering... how do you get the wax out of the owl? like say you want to switch scents. i kind of struggle with that with my petal burner :/

I've found that when I use the actual Scentsy brand scents, the smell is much stronger and lasts way longer. When I use the off brand, cheap stuff it doesn't last as long.

I always just turn him off, and wait an hour or so. The disk of liquid cools and then just pops out really easy with a knife. I just stick the knife under one side and it comes out as one big piece. Sometimes I save that big piece if I think it still has some scent left in it. Sometimes the off brand wax is really brittle and doesn't come out well, but the name brand stuff is super easy.

I usually just pour out the wax while warm when it's spent in to the trash, or if there is still scent left in it, I pour it back in to it's little container to re-use later. Then, I wipe out the dish of the burner and add a different scent.

I have a bunch of Yankee Candles but, and this is going to sound crazy, I don't actually burn them. I like the look of the jars and the scents but I don't want to burn them. I have red velvet and it smells amazing. My favourite Christmas scent is Christmas Cookie and Strawberry Buttercream is really nice too.

I have some special ones that I'll never burn (I ordered some special American ones online for way more than anyone should pay for a candle) but I will, at some point, get some regular ones to burn. I have, like, more than a dozen large jars, lol.

If you have a mini hot plate/cup warmer, you can put the candles on it to get the scent with out burning them!

I am the same way about Yankee. I have closets full of the large jars that I refuse to burn because once they're gone I won't be able to smell them whenever I want. D:

I don't use candles, I use scentsy. I don't have to worry so much about my cat knocking it over. I like earthy smells.
But I'm super obsessed with one called Peppermint Dreams because it's like Christmas. And Cinnamon Bear because it smells like red hots.

You have to find a Scentsy "rep." They're like Avon or Mary Kay. It's silly. But I can buy through my rep's website, once I found her.

My friend sells scentsy. You can order it through her website. You don't have to join a party if you don't want to, but I think it gives you cheaper shipping.

I have been an avid Yankee burner for years, but recently have been buying more candles from bath & body works. You can get a large candle there for cheaper than Yankee, and they burn better (as in, evenly across, no wax left around the rim of the candle) and they seem to fill the room with stronger fragrance. The only thing Yankee has on them for me personally is selection. I love a LOT more scents from Yankee than bath and body works.

My favorites from bath & body works are: Fireside and Marshmallow fireside; seasonal: Winter Candy Apple.
From Yankee: Chocolate Cappuccino, Pink sands, Sun & Sand, Black coconut, Beachwood, Turquoise Sky (...basically all their beach scents); seasonal: Spiced Pumpkin, Eggnog, Mistletoe
