Does anyone here practice transcendental meditation? What do you get out of it? How did you get started with it?

Thoughts on meditation in general?

i think it can work wonders for people but i don't personally get anything from it

There is a big difference between transcendental meditation and general meditation.

I live in Fairfield, Iowa. I am not sure if that means anything to you, but at one time it was the transcendental meditation center of the U.S. My experience with most people that practice TM is not a good one. Most of them will not treat someone who does not practice TM with respect.

I knew a woman that started to practice TM. She told me that the feeling that she had after TM is very much like being drunk or high.

I have heard from Witches, and Satanist that they call it hillbilly magic and wouldn't go near it if they could help it.

Now general meditation is good for may things.

That's interesting. I have to say I don't know anything about meditation but I'm a big David Lynch fan and his obsession with TM got me curious - he says it's basically his biggest source of inspiration and well being and the way his foundation puts it it's all about acceptance, and it's not necessarily a spiritual practice. But upon further investigation (googling) it does seem a little cult like sometimes.

I don't know anything about transcendental meditation (but by the name it sounds pseudoscience-y), but everyday meditation is interesting to me. I don't know how much I would gain from it myself since I'm already a pretty calm person, but I'd try it, and I think it's great for a lot of people.

I have practiced transcendental medication.

I do normal meditation it helps me relax and organize my thoughts
