[vodkabeforenoon]
Do you feel comfortable sharing the same bar of soap with other people in your home?

I just overheard this girl belittling her friend for using the same bar of soap that the rest of her family uses.
The girl says body wash is better because you know it didn't touch anyone elses body.
Does this sound silly?

We share a bar of soap at my house. We do have body wash as well. I don't really see a big deal about it.

I think it's understandable why she doesn't like it, but ridiculous to belittle someone about it.

We all have our own wash cloths, puffs, and loofahs so why does it matter if we share soap?

I have no idea... she made it sound like you might get sick sharing soap. O_o

I'm okay with it, like I don't think it's weird or anything, but back when I did there always seemed to be hair in the soap so I prefer body wash

I think it really depends on the hygiene of your family members

If my family was sticking that soap where the sun don't shine, I'd be grossed out. But we just lather the soap onto our washcloths so it's not a big deal.

Not really. It makes me think of that one Friends episode when Joey and Chandler basically have this conversation, and Joey is like, "Think of the last thing I wash, and the first thing YOU wash."

extremely silly. I wonder if she thinks people got oh-so-sick from sharing soap before body wash came along. :/

Not to mention, public restrooms used to have bar soap instead of liquid soap dispensers. Oh, the horror!

Not only did my elementary school have bar soap in the bathrooms, we also dried our hands on those big cloth roller towels. Look, I'm still here!

I always shared with my family growing up, but now with my fiance we both have our own.

I prefer not to.

Her argument isn't silly (I prefer my soap to be mine and mine alone just for comfort) but I would never belittle someone for using a bar instead of body wash O_o. If everyone's comfy what's the big deal? At least everyone is using soap (:

I don't think anyone in my family uses soap, we all have really dry skin... it's never been a thing. I don't have a problem sharing bar soap for hands.

I think it's silly to belittle someone over their washing habits.

It's fine as long as everyone's using a washcloth or bath pouf or something.

I feel so uncomfortable with it that I dont even use a bar of soap!
I wouldnt use a bar of soap. I dont know why. Feels weird to me. Id never use the same bar of soap as my mom or dad. Id maybe use a bar of soap my SO had used.
(eta) literally thought people rubbed the bar on them. Sometimes i do this with my armpits if i have to do a fast shower. Apparently i am the dumb with bar soaps!

though, i only use bar soap on my..err.. privates. i like body wash with a loofah cuz it smells nice :)

i refuse to use soap bars after growing up always finding other family member's pubes on the one in the shower.
my partner didn't know soap came in bar form until we were given some as a house warming gift.
so, nope, don't share soap bars.

I personally wouldn't, but I don't care if someone else does. Because even if you use your own loofah, you're still rubbing the same soap on it and loofahs have dead skin cells and all kinds of nasties in them that could transfer onto the soap, lol.

My wife and I share soap, and as long as there aren't pubes stuck in the soap, who cares. The surface dissolves when exposed to water. Not a big deal.

I don't share.
Always refused to. My family all does, but I always made my mom buy me body wash. She would always bitch, so I had to explain that I'd really prefer not to wash my lady bits with the same bar of same my dad uses to wash his bits with. NO THANKS. EW. I rationally get that it's soap, it's clean. But yeah, NO THANKS.
Bodywash all the way.

It crosses my mind but that won't stop me from using a bar of soap. I usually just rinse it under water before I use it.

As a kid I did. With my ex, we did. Currently everyone in my house has their own soap/body wash, but I'm sometimes paranoid that someone else is using my soap between their buttcheeks or something. but doubtful.

Soap is pretty much self-cleaning, so I don't think it's a big deal. That being said, however, I keep my "fancy" soap separate from the rest of my family so I can indulge.

i hate bars of soap in general, though i kind of see soap as self cleaning so i would if i had no other options. but really, body wash all the way.

When I was a kid, I used the same bar of soap as the rest of the family. I don't remember how old I was, but I was old enough to know that hair grows in other places that aren't on the face or head. I found a black curly hair on the bar of soap and from then on, I insisted on my own because my dad is the only one in the family with black hair. I'm still grossed out by this.

Now we don't even have a bar of soap in the house - we all have our own body washes and it's a lot better that way.
