Awww, that was ADORABLE! (The boy wasn't too hard on the eyes, either!)

I actually would like to have one; I loathe pet hair.

I knew someone with a hairless cat, idk if it was that breed, but it had a very rough tongue! I suppose I could wear black safely, right?

Like. I used to be extremely allergic to cats (trips to the ER, etc.) and I always wanted one of these. I'm not so allergic anymore/possibly not allergic anymore, but I still like them.

Most people with cat allergies are actually allergic to the dander, which is the dried up spit (which, in most cats, contains a protein which is the allergen that triggers most people with cat allergies). This protein is still present in the Sphynx's saliva, so most people with cat allergies won't be any less allergic to them than they are to hairy cats. You'd be better off looking into Siberians and other "hypoallergenic" cats if your allergies are still a concern (although a minority of people who are allergic to cats are actually allergic to something other than dander and for some of those, the Sphynx may be the right choice). It'd probably be a good idea to make sure you know exactly what you're allergic to (if you still are) before getting a cat. If you were to try going with a Sphynx, maybe finding a breeder who has no other cats in the house and spending some time there to see if your allergies set off, would be a good plan!

* The more you know!

I think they're freaking adorable, though. Not moreso or less so than hairy cats. I think it's a strange thing to breed for, however, and I wonder how many health problems they have due to the lack of hair (kind of like the way smooshy-faced cats often have nose and eye issues due to their breeders' propensity for taking it too far). I probably won't ever have another cat again, after the cat I have right now (a hairy moggie) because she's not great for my asthma... But I know that, despite loving certain breeds a massive amount, I would always wind up with a rescue cat or a coincidental oh-hai-i-am-cat-need-home-can-has?! situation.

What if you washed them often? I'd think that washing the saliva off their skin often would help keep the dander from spreading.

Some pet shops sell wipes that help keep dander down, and certainly that would help. It would be easier to keep the cat clean without the fur to contend with, too. I'm only saying that most people with cat allergies will still be allergic to a Sphynx cat - not that they are a definite no-no for you :) Also, I think they're super cute.

Just brainstorming in text, really. I always thought they'd be fun cats to get used to bathing at least. No sopping wet fur to contend with.

I wonder if frequent bathing would irritate their skin? Not sure. I know some dogs and frequent bathing is a big no no.

Oh weird. Maybe that's why my mom never got me one as a kid, heh. That's when I was allergic. I'm not allergic anymore. I actually don't know what I was allergic to as acid. I was also allergic to guinea pigs (which I had, though my allergies to them didn't land me in the hospital). I was not allergic to dogs though (according to the allergist the only things I wasn't allergic to was ragweed, dogs, coffee, corn and tomatoes, lol). I'm lucky I seem to have grown out of most of my allergies and my asthma.

Still really interetsing, I had no idea!

I want a pet really badly, preferably a dog, but our apartment building doesn't allow pets, though one of my neighbors has a hairless cat and I know she was let to by the landlord, just don't know why. I definitely wouldn't mind having one of those. I would never get a pet against the rules or something as i would never want to be in the situation where i had ot move or give up my pet, etc.

No worries :) I would hate to see someone getting a cat they think they're not allergic to, and have to rehome the cat due to a mistake!
